USCIS Interview Interpreting

An interview with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) may involve detailed questions about an applicant's immigration history, family relationships, personal circumstances, and eligibility. Accurate communication between the interviewing officer and applicant is essential.

Cal has personally served as an interpreter at numerous USCIS interviews. His experience with investigative interviews, legal proceedings, and cross-cultural communication helps him approach these assignments calmly, accurately, and professionally.

We can assist with the following USCIS interviews:

  • Form I-485 — Adjustment of Status
  • Form I-751 — Removal of Conditions
  • Form I-130 — Petition for Alien Relative
  • Form N-400 — Naturalization (where an interpreter is permitted)
  • Other USCIS interviews

Other In-Person Vietnamese–English Interpreting Services

USCIS interviews are a particular area of experience, but our interpreting services extend well beyond immigration matters.

Legal appointments: Attorney–client meetings, consultations, conferences, and other legal or administrative proceedings where an interpreter is permitted.

Medical and healthcare appointments: Consultations, examinations, treatment discussions, and meetings with healthcare professionals, subject to provider requirements.

Government and public agencies: Appointments, interviews, and administrative interactions involving agencies and public services.

Business and professional meetings: Meetings, negotiations, discussions, and other business situations requiring Vietnamese–English communication.

Other personal appointments: Individual situations in which in-person Vietnamese–English interpreting would help the participants communicate effectively.

We can also discuss assistance with applications, correspondence, and administrative procedures where appropriate. Any additional services and their scope will be agreed upon separately.

Why Choose Cal?

Fluent in American English and contemporary Vietnamese. Experienced in USCIS interviews.

Cal grew up in the United States and has extensive professional experience in both American and Vietnamese environments. He worked professionally in Vietnam from 1998 through 2022, including managing a law firm in Ho Chi Minh City, and continues to travel to Vietnam regularly for work.

His long-standing and continuing involvement in Vietnam gives him firsthand familiarity with contemporary Vietnamese language, expressions, and cultural nuances—not merely textbook Vietnamese.

Cal holds a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Davis and served as an investigator for a major California county District Attorney's Office, gaining substantial experience in investigations, interviewing, and handling sensitive matters. A veteran, Cal had specialized training and practical experience in the U.S. Army in interviewing, interrogation and information security.

These experiences provide a strong foundation for accurate, professional Vietnamese–English interpreting, particularly in USCIS interviews and other settings where questions and answers must be communicated clearly and precisely.

Cal personally handles every interpreting assignment. Clients know who will be accompanying them to their appointments.

Confidentiality — A Personal Commitment

For Cal, confidentiality is a professional discipline, not merely a promise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you accompany me to my USCIS interview?

Yes, when USCIS rules permit an interpreter for your particular interview. Cal personally attends scheduled appointments, subject to availability.

Can I bring an interpreter to my naturalization interview (Form N-400)?

Not automatically. Naturalization applicants are generally subject to English-language requirements, and an interpreter may be used only where USCIS permits one—for example, under an applicable exemption or authorized exception.

What is Form G-1256?

Form G-1256 is the declaration used in interpreted USCIS interviews. When required, the interpreter and applicant must follow the USCIS officer's instructions regarding completion and signing.

Can my attorney also serve as my interpreter?

No, not while representing you at the same USCIS interview. USCIS expressly prohibits attorneys and accredited representatives from serving simultaneously as legal representatives and interpreters, with no exception for good cause.

An attorney who has filed Form G-28 would have to withdraw as your representative to be considered as an interpreter, and USCIS supervisory approval would still be required.

If your attorney is present at the interview, using a separate interpreter allows your attorney to focus on representing and advising you throughout the interview. USCIS Form G-1256 instructions.

Do you provide telephone or video interpreting?

No. This service is specifically for in-person appointments, with Cal attending at the agreed location.

How much does interpreting cost?

Pricing is provided individually based on the service, expected duration, location, and other appointment requirements. The initial inquiry and quote are free. All fees and applicable travel charges are disclosed before booking.

Is information about my appointment kept confidential?

Yes. Information provided for, or learned during, an interpreting assignment is treated confidentially, except for disclosures you authorize or that are required by law.
